Advocacy 


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop relationships and contacts with local state legislators, administrators as well as state legislative staff (securities, real estate and insurance).
  • Coordinate the Texas FPA Day at the State Capitol during each regular legislative session with the other Texas FPA chapters.
  • Keep FPA government affairs staff informed on state government issues or activities related to financial planning, the CFP mark, investment advisor, and insurance advisor regulation and legislation
  • Monitor pending national and state legislation that has an impact on the financial planning industry
  • Communicate with members about pending and current legislation that has an impact on the financial planning industry
  • Develop a strategy that will position our chapter of FPA, in coordination with the other Texas chapters, as a resource to Texas legislators and regulators on financial planning issues
  • Coordinate a Texas FPA candidate survey with other Texas FPA chapters during each campaign season.
  • Oversee the local Chapter Government Relations committee
  • Promote the FPA’s legislative and regulatory position
  • Promote an environment that is favorable to the ethical practice of financial planning
  • Attend board meetings; support the efforts of other board members; attend programs and activities of our chapter
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the president or the board of directors
