Social Media and How It Can Benefit Your Practice

Scott Taft, CIMA®

Regional Director, Legg Mason Global Asset Management

1 CPA CE (Does not qualify for CFP CE)

By now almost every advisor has heard about social media and how it can benefit their practice.  The real question is that after multiple social media presentations why aren’t most advisors using this in an effective fashion?  I have worked with over 500 advisors to help them create an online system that is time efficient and repeatable.  In my presentation I will help you understand:

  • How to effectively integrate social media into your business
  •  The two most effective platforms:  (Facebook & LinkedIn)
  • How to create systems you can use in both a repeatable and efficient manner
  • How to uncover your niche(s)
  • How to locate clients and prospects (many of whom may have hidden their profiles)
  • Steps to protect your privacy
  • How to uncover hidden opportunities within your existing network.

Scott Taft is Regional Director at Legg Mason serving the Northern Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Shreveport, LA region for both the National Broker Dealer and Independent Advisor channels. He has spent 12 years of his 17 year career with Legg Mason or its predecessor firms. Prior to Legg Mason, Scott was a Vice President at Trust Company of the West (TCW) and Strong Investments. Scott graduated from Texas Christian University with a BBA in Management in 1998. While at TCU, he tested himself academically as well as physically by serving as linebacker for the TCU Horned Frog football team. Scott was also voted Most Valuable Player and team captain by his teammates in 1997. He continued his education by obtaining his Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®) designation in 2003, administered by Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA) and taught in conjunction with The Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. Scott also holds FINRA Series 7, 63, and 65 licenses. In his spare time, Scott plays the bass guitar, enjoys working out, serving at church, and spending time with his wife Danielle and their two children, Gunnar and McKinley. His mantra is: “You can achieve anything if you hold true to your beliefs and work harder than your competition.”

The Alzheimer's Tsunami

Jack Broyles

CEO, Jack Broyles and Associates

Alzheimer’s Disease is like a Tsunami that is sweeping through our country.  Every 66 seconds someone in America is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.  Alzheimer’s Disease is the 6th leading cause of death in America and the only disease in the top 10 we cannot stop, slow down or prevent. Americans spend more money annually on Alzheimer’s and Dementia than any other condition including heart disease and cancer. Jack has created a very compelling and powerful presentation designed to help educate us on:

  • What is Alzheimer’s?
  •  Alzheimer’s Facts
  • Three stages of Alzheimer’s – costs associated with each stage
  • 10 Warning Signs
  • How to advise clients before a diagnosis
  • How to build suitable budgets and a financial plan after the diagnosis

Jack Broyles has been in the Financial Services Industry for over 30 years.  He is well-known for his accomplishments in marketing, motivating and educating registered representatives and their clients.  Jack has always enjoyed helping advisors learn ways to better serve their clients.  Jack also has a passion for helping families affected by Alzheimer’s Disease. After losing his mother to the disease in 2004, Jack has made educating, serving families and raising awareness for research a major part of his life’s work. His father, Frank Broyles, the legendary Arkansas Razorbacks football coach, wrote a Playbook for Caregivers, to share with families what they learned about caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s.  Jack speaks to Financial Advisors and their clients about his family’s experience with the disease and its personal and financial costs.  In 2006, Jack was invited to join the board of directors of the Dallas chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, where he served as chairman from July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2012.  Jack lives in Dallas, TX with his wife Janet.  He has 2 daughters, a son-in-law and two adorable grandchildren.  Away from business, Jack enjoys bible study, golf and spending time with family and friends.
