Caleb Brown, nationally known expert and Co-Founder & CEO of New Planner Recruiting, shares what he has learned over 10 years of recruiting financial planning talent for firms across the country and how the recent pandemic will impact hiring for years to come. Attendees will gain his insights into understanding the next generation of financial services professionals, crafting a unique position description so you will stand out, where to source candidates to build a pipeline, how to effectively screen candidates to ensure they are a good fit for your firm, compensation data and best practices, successfully integrating a new hire into your firm, and strategies for retaining them.

 

Caleb is the co-founder and CEO of New Planner Recruiting, a recruiting firm that specializes in sourcing, screening, and integrating financial planners in financial planning firms nationwide.  He was named the Next Generation Influencer by Financial Planning magazine, one of the top 25 most influential people in the industry by Investment Advisor, and Investment News 40 under 40.  He is a graduate of the Texas Tech Personal Financial Planning Program and spent over five years in an RIA firm in North Texas helping a sole practitioner transition the firm to an ensemble model. He has been recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus for the TTU College of Human Sciences as well as a Distinguished Alumnus for the TTU Financial Planning Program. His new book Successful Hiring for Financial Planners: The Human Capital Advantage is a compilation of the to do’s and what not to do’s in hiring for a financial planning firm so business owners can alleviate pain points often associated with hiring. He is a Kolbe Certified™ Consultant, and original creator of the FPA Career Day program, which began with the Dallas/ Ft. Worth chapter and subsequently, has been implemented by other organizations across the nation. Throughout Brown's career, he has mentored, hired, managed, and coached many career changers and college students seeking internships and full-time positions in financial planning as well as the firm owners who hire them.   He is also an Adjunct Faculty member for the University of Georgia’s Financial Planning Program. Outside of work, Caleb coach’s boys’ basketball for Downtown Ministries, a program to teach inner city kids necessary life skills. He is also an avid golfer, hiker, Tough Mudder, and snowboarder.

This course provides practical applications for Vanguard’s Advisor’s Alpha behavioral coaching concept. The discussion will focus on the principles and process underlying effective behavioral coaching, including the 3P’s: planning, proactivity, and positivity, and the 3A’s: assess, address, and audit. We will also discuss why behavioral coaching is crucial to the success of the advisor’s business and the outcomes of their clients. Learn more about the focus on human elements of advice, the importance of a written financial plan, and how to implement a coaching process.

 

Michael A. DiJoseph, CFA, is a senior advice strategist in Vanguard Financial Advisor Services™. He is responsible for bringing Vanguard’s thought leadership and methodology to life through technology, service offers, and innovative content. He also regularly acts as an ambassador for Vanguard, speaking at industry conferences, client meetings, and other media engagements including webcasts and podcasts on a range of investment and advice topics. Previously, he was an investment strategist in Vanguard Investment Strategy Group, where he published over 25 research papers and articles, primarily focusing on Advisor’s Alpha™, retirement income, investor behavior, and portfolio strategy. Mr. DiJoseph spent his first few years at Vanguard in a variety of fixed-income roles. Prior to joining Vanguard, he worked in the advice industry as an investment advisor. Mr. DiJoseph earned a B.S.B.A. in finance from Villanova University and is a CFA® charterholder.
