Building Ideal Relationships with Women Clients

Robert (Bobby) Miller, CFA - Regional VP; New York Life/MainStay Funds

Women control significant wealth and are important financial decision makers. Yet, many women feel disconnected from their advisor and are intimidated by the wealth management industry. Learn how to set yourself up for success with this important demographic by joining New York Life Investments as they present “Building the Ideal Relationship with Women Clients”. The presentation will share key points from their recent major research initiative that specifically discuss what small changes Advisors can make to better engage, retain, and attract women clients. Not only do women have tremendous personal wealth, but they control the overwhelming majority of financial decisions in their households. Our research shows 67% of women, over 50, share in financial decision making with their spouse or partner Relevant cases or examples – when applicable. In addition, 62% of women believe they have unique investment needs and challenges with their personal finances. Most female investors switch financial advisors for reasons other than investment performance. Contrary to many opinions in our industry, the majority of women investors don’t believe they have to work with a female advisor. In fact, 70% of our respondents did not have a preference of male or female advisors. Insights provided from our research are derived from a 2018 study conducted by New York Life Investments in partnership with RTi Research and Sub Rosa. The study employed both qualitative and quantitative methods to better understand the needs of women when it came to investing in the U.S. (Sample size: 800 respectively). At New York Life Investments, we understand the importance of guidance and recognize that something truly special happens when advice and partnerships converge.
