An Overview of Selected Provisions of the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act

Presenter: Vance Maultsby, CPA - Huselton, Morgan & Maultsby

This presentation will give insight and an analysis on many of the major provisions of the Tax Cuts & Job Acts (TCJA) of 2017 (HR1), with a special emphasis on how the new law affects individuals and their financial planning.  The details of the “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act” have been released and as expected, it will have a huge impact on tax law. Get ready to hit the reset button for tax planning. Tax professionals and financial advisors will be bombarded with questions from clients so you need to start preparing NOW. This session will provide a summary of the changes and an objective analysis of the impact on clients and the profession.  By the end of this session professionals will:

  • Be aware of the changes in tax rates, standard deductions and personal exemptions as well as the changes to Schedule A - itemized deductions. These items together are the building blocks for many if not most of the returns we prepare.
  • Be aware of the intricacies of the 20% deduction available for qualified business income
  • Be aware of the significant decrease in corporation tax rates
  • Understand the significant change to Estate tax
  • Be aware of the new credits and modifications to existing credits for both personal and business
  • Be aware of the significant increase of expensing under code section 179 and the lowering of taxes generally on business income
  • Be in a position to advise clients how the Tax Cuts and Job Act could possibly affect them

Vance Maultsby has a wide range of accomplishments both personally and professionally which provide insight into his clients’ needs. Vance was a standout student at the University of North Texas where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with an undergraduate degree in accounting and was recognized as the Outstanding Graduate Student in the College of Business while studying for his master’s degree.
